Description
Dr. Johnson is a licensed clinical psychologist, author, and internationally recognized researcher and trainer in the field of child sexual abuse. Her essential course helps people working with children understand what are the expected behaviors related to sex and sexuality in young children and how to distinguish them from behaviors that are of concern and require some intervention.


Workshop Objectives

  • Describe the groups of children with problematic childhood sexual behaviors
  • Differentiate natural and healthy childhood sexual behaviors from those that are problematic
  • Describe the factors that move a child beyond natural and healthy behaviors
  • Describe the characteristics of problematic sexual behaviors in children


About the Author(s)
Toni Cavanagh Johnson, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in private practice in South Pasadena, California. She has been working in the field of child abuse for 27 years as a researcher, trainer and clinician. For the past 22 years, Dr. Johnson has provided highly specialized treatment for children 12 and younger with sexual behavior problems. She has written five books, two booklets, two therapeutic games, published numerous articles in reference journals, as well as book chapters on child sexual abuse and children with sexual behavior problems. Among other organizations, Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children, the Association for the Treatment of Sexual Abusers, the International Society for the Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect, and the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts.
